Potential for Real-Time Target Localization in Radiation Therapy Demonstrated
Calypso® Medical Technologies, Inc., Investigators Present Progress at AAPM 47th Annual Meeting
Seattle, WA – July 24, 2005 – Reports of scientific investigations of Calypso® Medical’s Calypso® 4D Localization System will be presented at the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) 47th Annual Meeting. These abstracts discuss the Calypso® System with permanently implanted Beacon® Electromagnetic Transponders, which is designed to provide efficient, objective, accurate and continuous tumor location information for external beam radiation therapy without adding ionizing radiation.
Current methods of marking a tumor’s location for radiation therapy use less objective methods such as skin tattoos, snap shot x-ray images, or ultrasound images to align tumor targets prior to treatment. These methods lack the ability to continuously locate the target’s movement during treatment. Calypso® Medical Technologies’ investigational platform is expected to provide a way to position patients and continuously track the tumor’s position for external beam radiation therapy that is accurate, objective and efficient without an additional radiation dose.
Calypso® Medical’s technology will be highlighted in five technical abstracts presented at the AAPM 47th Annual Meeting at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center in Seattle, July 24 – 28, and published simultaneously in the journalMedical Physics:
